Rachael & Dan’s Shortmead House wedding in Biggleswade was fun-packed from start to finish. The day began with Rachael and the bridal party getting ready in a cottage in the grounds, while also watching the Netball World Cup on an iPad. The morning preparations were super relaxed and I had some time to explore the venue and scout out some locations for later on. Shortmead House wedding venue is a Grade II Georgian manor house set in stunning grounds. The house has had some modernisation over the years and a swimming pool and thatched area have been added, and it was under the thatch where the ceremonies are held. Later in the morning Dan and the groomsmen arrived so we got a few photos before guests needed to be greeted. Everyone gathered on chairs under the large open-sided thatch in anticipation of the ceremony. One of the great things about open air ceremonies from a photography point of view is not just the better light, but there are fewer limitations on where you can stand to get the best view. After the ceremony, guests then gathered in the courtyard for confetti, drinks and ice cream, and then the speeches delivered from a balcony. This was the perfect place with everyone gathered for the three great speeches. There was a little more time before dinner so while the guests enjoyed the garden games we did a few family photos. Dinner was served in the marquee, which would also play host to the evening party. As the afternoon drifted into evening we went for an explore with Rachael & Dan of the grounds for some romantic photos of just the two of them, in places I’d scouted in the morning. Across the railway at the back was a golden wheatfield, which we found ourselves in at sunset. It was a lovely moment for Rachael & Dan, and made for some great shots too. Back in the marquee it was time for the party to start, so after the first dance all the guests took to their feet.
