After a great Hinchingbrooke Park pre-wedding shoot, I was really looking forward to Gabby & Chris’ Poets House Ely wedding. It’s a super smart hotel set in the centre of historic Ely, with views of the famous Cathedral and in easy reach of wide open green spaces and historic backdrops f0r great photo settings. The day began with Gabby, her mum and sisters getting ready in one of the rooms with cathedral views and a freestanding copper bathtub. The ceremony was held in the elegant Writing Room with views over the hotel gardens. Afterwards, drinks and canapés were served in the lounge bar, and guests spilled outside for confetti and to enjoy the garden spaces. Children chased bubbles while we made time for a few family photos, and then before it was time for the wedding breakfast we slipped out to historic side streets for some atmospheric photos. Later on in the day we took a stroll further into Ely, taking in the cathedral grounds, Cherry Hill park for fantastic views and wound our way back to the party via some scenic streets. Gabby, Chris and the wedding party then danced the night away on the dance floor in the multi use Writing Room – having been the space for the ceremony, wedding breakfast and evening party.
If you are planning a Poets House Ely wedding and are looking for a photographer then please get in touch. I am relatively local to the hotel and have photographed a few weddings here, and am familiar with the running of the day and the best spaces for photos. I’d also recommend making time for photos around Ely during your day. The hotel is so close to the centre and there are lots of superb locations that make for great photos, and wide open green spaces with amazing views over one of England’s smallest cities.
