Sarah & Christina’s Barton Hall wedding was such a top notch day for a whole host of reasons. I first met the couple only a few days prior for their Cambridge pre-wedding shoot which we squeezed in as Sarah & Christina live in the US and so the week of the wedding was the only opportunity. The pre-wedding shoot was lots of fun, they were great company and felt like I was photographing old friends. Fast forward a couple of days and the wedding photography began with the final touches of Sarah getting ready with her bridesmaids at Barton Hall Hotel, before the couple did a first look. This is more of a US tradition and less common in UK weddings, though I have photographed a few. A first look is where the couple meet shortly before the ceremony, so they can have a private moment together before the spotlight of the wedding ceremony. Wedding ceremonies at Barton Hall are in The Orangery, a stunning room set within the grounds of the hotel, with striking glass domes on the roof. The couple entered The Orangery together while family dabbed away a few happy tears, and the celebrant conducted a lovely heartwarming ceremony. After the ceremony, the newlyweds were showered with confetti, and then drinks and canapés were served and a magician wowed the wedding crowd with card tricks. We made time for a few family photos and a few portraits of Sarah & Christina, but it was a super scorching day and decided it would be better to take more couple shots later when the sun was a bit lower and less intense. During the wedding breakfast, everyone was treated to a surprise of a pair of secret singing waiters. They were organised by Christina’s mother, and she was the only person who knew they would be performing, even the newlyweds didn’t know. The waiters had been serving the guests drinks throughout the reception, perfectly blending in as staff. But when the moment came, they burst into song and a performance as if the West End had come to Kettering. The show went down amazingly well, with guests participating and dancing on their feet. As we neared evening we made time for a few more photos of Sarah and Christina and were rewarded with some gorgeous golden light and Barton Hall has some lovely outdoor spaces for photos. In the evening a band were ready to get the party started and even get granny up on the dance floor.
