Courtenay and James’ Cambridgeshire farm marquee wedding was a joyous day with the weather to match. The wedding began with Courtenay and her bridesmaids getting ready at home, which was a really short walk from the village church down the pretty lane. The church had a swarm of bees buzzing about the roof space causing some excitement – or mild concern – before the ceremony, with plenty dropping to the floor then hoovered up by the best man. The bees proved to be no nuisance and the ceremony was unimpeded. Afterwards we had confetti in the church yard before the newlyweds departed in their soft top sports car. We met again in James’ farm yard where there were ripening wheat fields and agricultural scenes for wedding portraits. This gave us time for some fun and relaxed pictures while guests made their way to the marquee in a nearby meadow field. It was then time for the drinks reception, canapés and family photos, followed by a big group photo of everyone in front of the marquee. To get some height, I stood in a basket on a tractor cherry picker operated by the father of the groom, and fortunately I hadn’t counted how many drinks he had had while he lifted me into the air. It was then time for the wedding breakfast and a series of excellent speeches. Afterwards, it was a glorious summer evening and the assembled guests took part in a highly competitive welly wanging competition, and the groom was pipped to the post for victory by a late entrant. As we entered golden hour we went across the farm to some beautiful ancient meadows for a few more portraits with the bride and groom. Back in the marquee the evening was set to begin with a great two-piece covers band providing the soundtrack to the dancing.
